Para 30917 deals with the various checks to be done in case of Panto entanglement to envisaged the reasons.
Various correction Slips of ACTM has issued depending upon various requirements arises due to either advancement in technology or clarification sought due to issues arises with time about electric traction and it’s functionaries.
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 47 of the Indian Railways Act, 1890 (9 of 1890), the Central Government hereby make the following General Rules for all the Railways in India administered by the Government and for the time being used for the public carriage of passengers, animals or goods.

P WAY MANUAL IRPWM relevant should be studied in correlation with ACTM as all parameters of TRD is with respect to track any changes like slewing, changing in super elevations having magnified effect on TRD parameters. Maintaining the correct parameters could only be achieved if relevant parameters of both (P Way and TRD) should be religiously followed specially at curvature, poor formation areas for safe train operations.Para 283 (g) at page number 114 of IRPWM 2004 mentioned the same.
There are always a greater concerned about the visibility of signals in the electrified territory and the instructions elaborated in this regard mentioned in para 20.5 of Appendix -1 ACTM Vol-II part-II is given below.
It is also mentioned in Annexure 31 para 22.3.1 (C) in Signal manual vol II for ready reference.
Since the conception of double stack container movement and high rise OHE the Schedule of Dimensions of DFCCIL has further revised.
It is worth to mention that Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridors and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors have their separate Schedule of Dimensions due to difference in contact wire geights in both the projects. Certain more flexibility and more track separation have envisaged in their SODs as compaired to IRSOD keeping in view of their new works being undertake and requiments.
Every Government specifies their own design manuals depending upon structural and dimensional requirement of their areas. Normally study of the same felicitates us to better understanding about the changes of norms and specification of norms based upon specific areas requirement. These studies plays pivotal role for further enrichment and improvement of our system.
Several countries of all continents used to standardize these standards for Highways and Railways in a combined ways and having common ministerial setup also like JAPAN (MLIT), HONGKONG.
STRUCTURES AND DESIGNS MANUAL for HIGHWAYS and RAILWAYS – The Government of the HONGKONG
LAND TRANSPORT AUTHORITY CIVIL DESIGN CRITERIA The Government of SINGAPORE
JAPANESE RAILWAYS SYSTEM – In Japan Railways being operated by various Railway companies and mainly governed by the regulations framed by MLIT for it’s functionaries and various guidelines issued time to time. Main rules and regulations have detailed here for comparative study.
However the major TECHNICAL REGULATORY STANDARDS ON JAPANESE RAILWAYS have also detailed in form of manuals also includes the Schedule of Dimensions and various operational rules.
Various developmental projects being going on apart from expansion projects of SHINKANSEN to increase the Mobility of Japanese Railways. SPEEDING UP CONVENTIONAL LINES AND SHINKANSEN is one of the story of several unsung story of their development and implementation of various high speed Railways Projects.
THE 19TH MEETING ON PUBLIC WORKS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN ASIA was organised by
National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan
discussed with various developmental works done in ASIAN continent and the challenges and bottlenecks in the developmental processes.
Similarly like other countries FEDERAL RAILWAYS in USA being legislated for Safety, Operational and Schedule of Dimensional norms by the manuals publication by it’s regulatory ie. US Department of Transportation FEDERAL RAILROAD ADMINISTRATION. The typical FEDERAL RAIL SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS is the manual issued in this regard and having authenticated by US Government for it’s implementation.
IMPLEMENTATION PLAN – USA federal Railways typical Railway expansion project implementation plan deals with various stages of planning and challenges in the same.
The Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008 (PRIIA) reauthorizes the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, better known as Amtrak, and strengthens the US passenger rail network by tasking Amtrak, the U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), States, and other stakeholders in
improving service, operations, and facilities. PRIIA focuses on intercity passenger rail, including Amtrak’s long-distance routes and the Northeast Corridor (NEC), state-sponsored corridors throughout the Nation, and the development of high-speed rail corridors.
The typical report by UNITED STATES INTERNATIONAL TRADE COMMISSION on Rollick Stock: Locomotives and Rail Cars shows the market scenario.
Federal Railroad Administration USA legislated the various design parameters in form of Track and Rail and Infrastructure Integrity Compliance Manual.
Apart from these manuals various field guides of various Rolling Stocks have also published for it’s implementation. FIELD GUIDE OF TANK CARS is one of the regulatory guide of tank wagons popularly known as BTPN in our country.
Most of the countries like USA, JAPAN has initiated there Rail Network to be operated by Private players more efficiently and passenger friendly in the decade of 1980s. RAIL PASSENGER CORRIDORS REMOVING BARRIERS TO PRIVATE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT is one of the typical report at that time.
